Looking for Unique Ideas on How To Proposal? Include your Dog!

Click bait title? Yes.

Worth it to see this magic? Also yes.

Just last week, there was a wonderful wedding between two dogs in Greenville, SC captured by some amazing vendor friends (or friendors, as people like to call them). Super cute, right? But it made me think back to one of the most unique and beautiful surprise proposals that I was a part of in 2019. So hold on tight, grab your tissues and a loved one, because this story is a good one.

It all started when Mike reached out to me about proposing to his girlfriend Emily.

He knew he wanted to pop the question during their visit to The Biltmore, which is seeming to be my bread and butter at this point. This was the first time a client has mentioned Diana though, which is the name of the upper lawn, but named so because of a statue of a woman and her dog. We don’t have time for the history of the statue (though it is neat), but just know there is a dog involved. At this point, Case, Mike and Emily’s beautiful dog, enters the picture. Mike tells me his master plan is as follows: He wants to throw a tennis ball DOWN the lawn, trust that Case will RETRIEVE said ball, and RETURN it to Emily. Meanwhile, Mike will be down on one knee, waiting for Emily to see the words “Marry Me?” written on the ball, and turn around to Mike, who will be waiting to pop the question. Call him crazy, but Mike assured me this plan would be foolproof. Case loves playing fetch, and always returns with the item he has retrieved. ALWAYS. What a trustworthy dog. I, of course, agreed to all of this because how amazing does this sound on paper?!?

And let me tell you. On the day of the proposal, everything goes 1000% according to plan! I was so thrilled, for Mike and Emily, but also for Case for being the best boy and doing the best job making this all happen.

Moral of the story, if you’re ever thinking of making your dog a part of your proposal, make sure they’re well trained and trustworthy. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
